ABOUT THE HISTORICAL RECORD

The archive is
an argument with receipts.

History of Code documents computing through traceable evidence, reported uncertainty and contributions that extend beyond well-known inventors.

History, without the mythology.

Computing history involves technical artifacts, human work, laboratories, business decisions and political institutions. A clean origin story can leave essential parts out. We approach every case by asking what is documented, who created the record, and which interpretations remain contestable.

Documentary honesty

The launch collections are starting points for research, not claims of original fieldwork, unpublished interviews or peer review. When a museum summary is cited, it is identified as later historical interpretation; when an archive points to an original document, the distinction is preserved.

Publicly revisable by design

Readers should be able to challenge a claim with a better source. Material accepted revisions will be dated and disclosed. We welcome overlooked contributors and conflicting evidence rather than treating the first published edition as the final word.
